Check Out the “Nordic Impressions” Exhibit at The Phillips Collection

As temperatures continue to drop and winter approaches, you might consider celebrating the season by visiting the Nordic Impressions art exhibit showing now through January at The Phillips Collection. The show features the work of 53 different artists hailing from Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

Much of the work is contemporary, but some pieces date back as far as 1821, so you’ll find a huge variety of styles and subjects on display. Many of the pieces explore subjects that loom large for communities living in Scandinavia: the contrast between light and darkness, the differences between interior and exterior spaces, and the omnipresence of some of mother nature’s most extreme landscapes. The main exhibit is on daily display, but you should also know that the museum is hosting dozens of related activities over the next few months, so be sure to check the website for a full schedule if you’d like your visit to coincide with a concert, film screening, artist’s lecture, or other special event.
