Convivial: Tapas-Style French and American Fare
The line between French and American cuisine blurs at Convivial, a newly opened eatery in DC. Its chef melds elements of each type of fare in order to create an innovative line-up of dishes that land somewhere between appetizers and entrees. The moderate size of the dishes is intentional; they’re designed for sampling and sharing.
Order a few different dishes to pass around the table. You can start with some “Nibbles,” such as the mushroom and vinegar potato chips with onion dip or the lamb latkes. Bring heirloom tomatoes in gazpacho dressing into the mix—you’ll find them on the “First Course” menu—and perhaps a corn omelet with tomatillo, gruyere cheese, and baveuse–part of the “Second Course” list. Save some room in your feast for a dessert like the hot sticky toffee pudding with maple ice cream or the French strawberry shortcake.
