Treat Yourself to an Upscale Meal at Sixth Engine, a Restored Historic Firehouse Near 77 H

Combine your love of great food with your love of history at Sixth Engine, an upscale restaurant that is housed inside of a historic firehouse. The restaurant’s owners acquired Engine Co. No. 6, DC’s oldest firehouse, back in 2011. While the building sat empty for more than 40 years after its construction in 1855 and its eventual decommissioning in 1974, it was beautifully restored and lovingly preserved under the thoughtful care of its new restaurateur owners.

Today, Sixth Engine serves an entirely new purpose as a welcoming community gathering space that pays homage to DC’s fascinating past. Locals enjoy dining on fresh oysters, lamb pastas and premium steaks inside of the grand building, while the main bar area creates a wonderfully cozy backdrop for your workday happy hour or a night cap after dinner in the area. Sixth Engine even contains a bar dining room that’s perfect for private parties or special occasions with family and friends from 77 H.
